Yukon, Jan 19th 2019 - April 17th 2022 cam

Yukon was the dog no one wanted not even me. A purebred black German Shepard.with some behavioural challenges. The breeder tried to find her a home but she kept being returned.  My neighbour had her brother and kept trying to convince me to take her. I kept saying no because I already had 2 dogs and 2 cats. I finally gave in and said I would go and meet her. She came home with me that day. An unruly 8 month old black furball with the most intense brown eyes I have ever seen.. My other dogs didn’t really like her at first but she eventually found her place in the pack.  At times she was like a wild dog and had a horrible nipping problem.  My arms were black and blue for the first year we had her.  Loved to bark at the tv, chew stuff and to be honest couldn’t fully understand that go potty was outside, not inside. Despite all of this I grew to love her very quickly.  She liked to talk to me, learned to be an excellent cuddler and kisser and loved her toys especially frisbees.  I don’t think I have ever met a more charismatic dog ever. In January, she started limping badly. Rushed her to an emergency vet, did some tests and sent me home with some meds. A couple of days later she stopped eating and could hardly move. Rushed her in again and she ended up spending 5 days in the hospital. Diagnosis was immune mediated poly arthritis. If it was only this, she would still be here. Tried to stabilize her through meds which was successful for a short time. I ended up taking her to a specialist in early April and went downhill after that. Again ended up in the hospital for 5 days. Different diagnosis, Systemic Lupus which impa is a symptom. I did bring her home for a week but even 12 different meds could not get her immune system under control. To end her suffering, I had to let her go. I so miss her barks, the touch of her paw when she wanted attention and her intense brown eyed state when she wanted me to throw her toy.  Miss many other things too.  The dog who wasn’t wanted came to be the most loved dog in the world
