Muffin

Muffin, 9/14/97

Clumsy paws batting at hay, jumping
And batting, hiding away
A little kitten black, orange and white
Jumps out in clear sight.
I want to cuddle her, pick her up
Call her mine and give her hugs
She runs from me
Because she doesn't see
But when I catch her
I can hear her quiet purr
Then on my lap
She would stay
If I'd let her
She'd spend the day
It took allot
Of work to make her tame
Plenty of patience
Quiet games
Something was probably
Wrong from the start
But at least
She has a place in my heart
I know she still
Lives on in heaven
It's never the end
Goodbye for now my Muffin
I'll see you again

She was partially blind from a serious eye infection as a kitten
so she'd run not knowing what was coming at her but as soon as you
picked her up she'd purr. It took a while before sh's do that, alot
of gentle taming, even a few treats I snuck down to her.
You see, she didn't live with me she was a local barn cat but she was one
of my cats. If I didn't already have two cats and two dogs she would've lived with me.
I'll miss her SO much.
I wish I'd taken her picture.
She was a beautiful tortishell and white with 7 toes on each front paw
and 8 claws! That doesn't sound possible but it's true because one pad had
a double claw! The claw looked like lobster pinchers!
She had the cutest face with pretty little aqua eyes.
She was poisoned by getting into oil, probably because she couldn't see it and licking it off and getting it in her lungs. She was fine one minute and gone the next.
I tried for about 15 minutes to administer CPR but she just wouldn't wake up.
I will miss you little girl.
When I was cradling your lifeless body and saying goodbye. A song came on the radio. "A whole new world." that's where you are Muffin. In a whole new pain free world. No blindness and nothing to be afraid of.
I picture you now sitting on a cloud, your big paws overlapping slightly peering down at me purring and smiling.
I'm sad that I won't be able to visit you at the barn anymore or actually SEE you for a long time, but I will see you again someday.
Now I feel that you're always with me watching over me and maybe even watching me type this.
I'll miss you.
